Quote for the week

There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man. ~Winston Churchill
There is something that happens to humans when they hang out with us horses. They seem to find a peace that they didn't know existed, a harmony with the world around them, and the true center of their being.
Just looking at the regal carriage of a horse makes most humans wish they can be a part of its life. Who wouldn't want to be a partner with such magnificent creatures.
The DOR says that every horse is beautiful and has a lesson to teach to humans. She believes that a horse embodies all of the good things in the world. Good thing she loves us so much...sometimes I am a bit of a pill who tries to push all of her buttons. She says that I teach her patience and how to find serenity no matter what-glad I can help her out.
Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR

Tell me about that horse in the photo! I LOVE his big strong build. I like a horse with substance.

Leah,
Thanks for asking
That is the DOR's appy horse Scooby (Spooky Sky). She bought him to be the last horse she would won. He is a nice ride, steady as they come and smooth as glass. He and the DOR really loved going out for a short ride every evening. He is 11 years old now. He went completely blind and the DOR retired him. He now spends his days being spoiled and is uncle to an orphan foal.
The DOR got me when it became obvious that Scooby need to retire.
It worked out well for all of us.

Scooby looks a lot like my old Sunshine horse ,something about the tilt to his head made me wonder about his sight,Sunshine went totally blind at 16 and though she was quiet enough to keep riding I also let her retire. Loveley quote I have always liked that one.

I always wanted a horse but we lived in the city. My dream came true in junior high school and I loved being with Misty, even though the only place we could ride was along the same stretch of river bed in Los Angeles. She retired to my grandparents place in northern California when I went to college and finally had a half acre pasture to enjoy. I miss deeply not having a horse to love and share my life with. You are so lucky to have such a great DOR. - Margy

Scooby is quite beautiful.

My mom's dad grew up in the country (southern Indiana) and her one big complaint in life is that she grew up in the city. :(

She used to beg her mom to let her have a pony. When asked where it would stay, she said "the bathtub." (Obviously she was very young when she said this.) :)

Nice post Jack! Scooby is very regal! A bit unfortunate he became blind so young. How does he get around, other than the orphan colt, how does he get about, does he have a pasture buddy?

He needs to teach that little orphan fartola some manners!! Last time I saw him he snuck up and bit me on my butt!!

Nice build on Scooby there CJS. (Hope you don't mind us all admiring him for a moment here...)

We have always loved that quote- and it's been proven true time and again here. Whenever there is turmoil, out to the horses we go. We come back in calmer, and refreshed, feeling like we can once again handle what the World (or the kids!) happen to be dishing out for us.

Scooby is a lucky boy to have found such a kind DOR. May you both have many more years together

When I was a kid I was terrified of horses and dogs even though I was strangely drawn to both. Today, I love horses and ride horses with little fear and I now even own a black lab/chow mix that sleeps on my bed and travels with me everywhere I go. My point...people do change, adapt and wake up.

As you say, horses are such magnificient creatures that command respect and offer peace. It is magaical to ride a horse through the woods or up a mountain trail and allow myself to breathe and observe and blend into nature.I am so glad that I have learned to trust the horse and allow its serenity to soothe me. They have so much to teach me.

Great post and great blog. I truly enjoy it.

Pony Girl,
Scooby has another pasture mate, Hank the Tank, that helps him if he needs it. Scooby has a great memory, as long as nothing is moved he does great. He also uses sounds to find things.

Horses do have a mystique and an elegant beauty. It was only this past summer when hubby and I watched an old cowboy film about a horse race across the desert, that I realized how noble these animals are. Wish I could remember the name of the movie... :(
