Pretty birds

There are pretty birds all over at the ranch. There are yellow finches, robins, sparrows, and a few hawks. One bird landed on Harley and then took off quickly when Harley swung his head around like he was going to bite him. The DOR was watching us and the birds and started thinking. She started wondering why horses spook at birds coming out of bushes out on a trail and do not spook at them flitting all around the pasture. Hmmmm, isn't that interesting....
Well it could be that we are not in our comfort zone, our front room so to speak, so we get spooked. It could be that we are bored and are looking for a bit of entertainment. I am blaming it on the rider. You see a bird flys out, the ride gets spooked and in turn that spooks the horse. So I am planning on working with the DOR so she doesn't spook when things come out of the brush. We will practice in the arena by having things pop out from behind the log pile and shrubbery when she isn't expecting it. Hopefully she will be able to work her way through this issue quickly.
Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR

Jack I think you have something there, I used to "spook " at duck flying out of the dugout and was always watching and tense when we went by , I think that my reactionis absolutley what Caused Catana to spook . When I was riding my old Stallion once a partridge flew up and smacked him in the chest I jumped a bit and the old fellow turned to look at mew as if to say "its a bird you twit"

It is nice to have the birds back. I am sorry they spook you,but I am sure that you and your DOR will work it out. It is still raining here and yesterday it snowed a little. Maybe Spring will get here some day.

Those are pretty birds but I can understand how they can be a little startling at times, things usually are when you least expect them. Good to practice!

Someone once told me they thought the fear of birds came from a time when horses were the size of Labs and birds were pterodactyls.

after the bird test you need to find a doe to jump up out on the trail along side of you. If your DOR can get through that, she can get through anything, even a rattle snake!!!
