Freedom Speaks Saturday-Worming

Yep it is time for deworming at the ranch. Look at those pictures...no way I want those things living in me!
Most people would think that is no big deal, a squirt of wormer paste and there you go. Not so with me and my buddies. Salty can't have chemicals, Ginger is immune compromised, and then there are the appys, what is a DOR to do? Appaloosa horses are predisposed to uveitus, moon blindness, and there is strong evidence that the use of chemicals raises the risk of triggering it. After doing her research our DOR decided to use a herbal dewormer. It is a seven day regime: 3 days before and after the full moon and on the day of the full moon. We all think it is great because we get an extra treat tub. This website has interesting information about herbal dewormers Herbal DeWormers and Your Horse By: Patti Duffy-Salmon
The DOR uses Herbal Tonic mixed with PGR, well everyone but Ginger gets PGR she get timothy pellets, for our treatment. Our free choice minerals have diatomaceous earth in the 2-1 and 1-1 which also helps with parasites. It works well and we don't have to deal with the side effects of chemicals. Last spring ivermectin caused Salty to drop 100 pounds and messed up his kidneys, the vet told the DOR when he came out that Salty couldn't have chemicals anymore.
So for those of you who worry about giving your horse chemicals there are effective alternatives out there.
Life is so good! Oh and Jack told me to remember to say: Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR
