Baby Doll would have bucked me to the moon had I ever tried to kick her.

But Apache refused to move with just a squeeze when we first started riding her. But interestingly, with a few more rides, a change of bit and tack, and more softness from me, she will now move forward without kicking. Now just a squeeze or the words, 'walk on' will work.

The only thing we haven't figured out is how to make her move up into a canter. Squeezing, kicking, kissing, more energy....nothing works.
Maybe she thinks I'm not ready?

Horses are good teachers.

Great post.

~LisaLaughing Orca Ranchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03562627840013868980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6120968294942240616.post-86865182623449679962010-03-15T18:22:21.142-07:002010-03-15T18:22:21.142-07:00As an inexperienced and crazy rider myself, I try ...As an inexperienced and crazy rider myself, I try really hard to keep my body as quiet as possible. Jaz totally gets it that I'm a putz. Poco doesn't. I don't know if he just doesn't get it or he doesn't tolerate it. Either way, it can be a circus.Leah Fryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18158981037468411293noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6120968294942240616.post-14201675423254510592010-03-15T08:29:53.491-07:002010-03-15T08:29:53.491-07:00yeah, squeezing is much better, much more polite.

Getting her back in shape was quite an experience. = MargyPowell River Bookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17580698518291129041noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6120968294942240616.post-46387112219516502002010-03-15T07:12:44.137-07:002010-03-15T07:12:44.137-07:00I'm all for squeezing.
