Mosquitoes bite!

Colder eveinings are coming soon, but until then the mosquitoes are still buzzing around.
If your DOR hasn't had you vaccinated for West Nile, it is most likely too later to get any benifit from the shot. So your DOR will need to take some other measures. Your DOR needs to taken care of standing water that they can breed in, apply pesticides to the breeding and congregating areas. You DOR should give you a fly sheet to help keep the little buggers off of you. If they are not spraying you each evening tell them to get busy!!! The other thing that will help is vitamin C, Ester C, or rose hips daily, and feeding some Apple Cider Vinegar as an internal bug repellent.
I hate worrying about any of my friends getting sick with this disease, so please take care of yourselves.
I am speaking to Freedom again. I did give him a good kick though. I hit him on his big ol' butt and left a bit of a bump-that is what he gets for getting me in trouble with the DOR. Amanda I read your advice to toot in his face, but I had already kicked him-I will use that the next time I 'owe him one.'
Salty and I played musical treat tubs tonight. We were both sure that the other one had the best treats, turned out we had the exact same thing and all we did was get tired.
The DOR decide that if I wanted to play we could do a bit of ground work...no big deal I have trained the DOR well, so we have that down to a fine art. What I want to know is why Salty and Freedom don't have to work? The DOR says they are retired, what the heck is that? Horses don't have tires, why would they need to be retired when they never were tired in the first place? Maybe she means the kind of tired that you get when you work hard. In that case I have been tired and then retired several times, in which case I shouldn't have to work anymore either. I am going to have to figure this one out, sounds like another case of pick on the new guy at the ranch. I am going to have to start the 'Fair Treatment for Cactus Jack Splash' foundation. I will have shirts, buttons, and protests...I see a change coming.

Freedom is NOT my friend!

Freedom is soooo not my friend, well at least until tomorrow.
The DOR came out to the pasture with treats for Salty and I, followed by Dakota who had Freedom's mush. Salty and I crowded around the DOR, following her to where she was going to set down our treat tubs. Freedom was trying to squeeze between the two of us to get to the DOR. The senile old guy was not listening to Dakota calling him to his paddock to get his mush, he was convinced the DOR had his mush. When he couldn't get between Salty and I he went around us on my side. On his way around he kicked me! I jumped and almost got the DOR, she did the human version of blowing marbles-she yelled at me. Well cow poop! I get kicked by a senile old horse and yelled at by the DOR and none of it was my fault! I am not speaking to Freedom. I don't care if he is my belly scritching buddy, if we stand butt to tail and swish flies off of each other's face, if he keeps an eye out for vicious horse eating bags, or if he was the first horse to be nice to me when I came to the ranch...I am not his friend, at least for tonight.
The DOR gave us all a good brushing. She told me about her day, it didn't seem as much fun as hanging out eating grass.
Well I am going to see if I can bite Freedom on the butt while he is in the paddock eating his mush, then I will be his friend again.
Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR

I got punked!

So the DOR was out giving us all the spa treatment yesterday. Boy did she owe me extra niceties. I spent the night all by myself in the arena...so not fair! All I had for company was a bunch of toys, some of which I DO NOT consider my friends. The DOR thought I needed some alone time, something about me throwing a fit because I had to leave Freedom when we went riding. I was not throwing a fit because I had to leave Freedom, really, I was throwing a fit to make the old guy feel special...I can leave my best friend at any time. I did throw a fit for a bit in the evening and then again early in the morning, that was only to let people know that I thought I was being treated unfairly by being left alone in the arena. I managed to get my fly mask really dirty so I needed a new one on, the DOR took off the dirty one.
She took me back to the pasture and my buddies, yippee. She sent Dakota to get a fly mask and he came back waving something around. I looked up and was sure he had a tan grocery bag. Now the DOR has Dakota cooperating with my torture, what a evil thing to teach a child.
Dakota gave the bag to the DOR and she started heading towards me. No way in heck was I standing still for that, especially after having to be alone all night...not that it bothered me, but it did upset Freedom. So I took off, the DOR followed and I kept trotting. Then she started waving the bag at me, she figured if I was going to run then she would play 'don't stop until you drop'. I was pretty sure I could win that game, after all she is 50. I ended up loosing, really I gave up before the old lady had a heart attack because if she keeled over who would bring me my treats? She came up and spread the bag out, I blew a few marbles. I looked real closely and to my surprise she had a fly mask.
Take a look. Don't you think that this mask would look like a tan grocery sack if it was folded up or being waved about? I dropped my head, just a bit embarrassed, and the DOR put the fly mask on-laughing while she did it.
I am plotting my revenge. I think I will suck wind and hold it when she does the 3rd check of the cinch. Yep that will work, then when she mounts I will let out my breath and she can just work on keeping the saddle balanced and not rolling during our next ride. If I don't line up to the mounting block for a bit she will just have to live with a loose cinch. I can kill a lot of time before I line up to the block and she can get off without rolling the saddle-yep sounds like a plan!

What every DOR needs to know

Every DOR should remember the following:

On the first day of creation, God created the Horse.
On the second day, God created man to serve the Horse.
On the third day, God created all the animals of the earth to spook the Horse when man was on his back.
On the fourth day, God created an honest day's work so that man could labor to pay for the keeping of the Horse.
On the fifth day, God created the grasses in the field so that Horse could eat and man could toil and clean up after the Horse.
On the sixth day, God created veterinary science to keep the Horse healthy and man broke.
On the seventh day, God rested and said "This is good. This will teach man humility. It will tire him out and keep him striving ever forward to meet the needs of the Horse."

You see all you DORs, we are your reason for living.
I am expecting my DOR to be out serving my needs all afternoon. She has the day off and needs to spend it entertaining me.
Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR
