AAACCCKKKK!

By now you all know how I feel about white things, Salty not included because he is a horse.
I am also not too sure about llamas, they smell funny and they spit! The male llamas run around hacking at each other and sometimes they let fly with some NASTY stuff.
There are three llamas at the ranch, two brown ones and one white one. Usually they are in with the cows. They are supposed to protect the ranch animals from the neighbors dogs. The gate between the cows and my pasture had to be opened so Pasca could be buried. Well that is when these opportunists made a break for it, they bolted into my pasture. Now I realized they might want to hang out with the coolest critter at the ranch, but I don't want them hanging out with me. As soon as I could I did my giant male llama imitation. I snorted, blew, and made all kinds of weird noises hoping to scare them off. The two brown ones realized they were out classed, but the white one wouldn't leave.
I kept Shandi up by the barn so the white llama couldn't bother her. I stayed up there with her in case he decided to come after her. I was protecting her even though the DOR said I was being a big chicken. I eventually went out into the pasture, I ran around like I was crazy, I bugged my eyes out, I snorted, I convinced the white llama I had rabies and he headed for his two brown friends in the pasture next to us. The DOR said I looked like I was scared to death, but I wasn't. I was using my rabid horse tactic to get him to leave and it worked! I hope he stays with his friends, I hope they all stay in the next pasture, I hope they stay far enough from the fence that they can't spit at me and I don't have to smell them.
Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR!

Less word Wednesday

Remember when I told you about the DOR having me give a ride to a walking little blue tarp that had a little human head? Well there was some speculation about whether there was such a thing. Well here is a picture of the little blue tarp. It can walk and has a little human head sticking out...poor little human head.
The DOR is still trying to convince me that it is a human foal...I am not buying it. It is a cute thing though and I guess I wouldn't mind giving it a ride again.

Frosty

Here is a photo of the ice crystals that have been forming on the fence the past few days. The temperature has been between 25-34 degrees when the DOR and Mushboy come out to give the old guys their mush. We don't have snow yet, but we are ready for when it gets here.
Shandi and I are very woolly and are still staying warm without having to wear a tarp. The DOR has all the tarps ready and has put them on all of us once to make sure they are properly adjusted. I killed one tarp last year....I hope the tarps live in fear of Jack the tarp killing horse. Run in fear tarps for your own safety stay away, save yourselves!

I know what you are doing

Hey DOR, can you see me? Look at these radar ears and all seeing eyes. I know what you are doing there in the barn. I can hear the grain scoop. I can hear the grain getting poured into treat tubs. I can see you moving around, taking peeks at me while you are pretending you can't see me. Yep you are not very sneaky you know. You need to be more stealthy to get in and out of the barn without me noticing. So what you got for me?
Well those are some nice looking treat buckets. The DOR mixes them up for Shandi and I every evening. Well if we are naughty or too pushy we have to skip treats so we don't just expect them every time we see the DOR. We get dry cob, our individualized supplements, and some special treat tossed in on top.
I have taught Shandi how not to mug the DOR for treats whenever she comes in the paddock. I have been practicing myself...well I have been practicing being sneakier about it, that way we can have treats every night. I love my treats: oats, carrots, apples, peppermints, pears, peaches, and anything else I can get my lips on.
Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR!

Quote for the week

Put on your stretchy pants and call it a day
~Captian Phil Harris of the Cornelia Marie of Discoveries Deadliest Catch

After stuffing ourselves on Thanksgiving Shandi and I took this advice to heart. Although we did without the stretchy pants because we would just look plain silly. The DOR says they don't make stretchy pants big enough to cover my big spotted butt. She better be careful what she says, after all she ate plenty herself over the past two days.
The point of the quote for this week is sometimes you just have to take a moment to relax. We horses make sure to relax every day. Freedom has relaxing down to an art. On Thursday he was flat out in the pasture snoring to beat the band. He says that is part of practicing Freedom Zen. The DOR has learned to take a moment at her work where she closes her eyes, breathes deeply, and clears her mind...she is a lot less stressed afterward.
So may I suggest that everyone take a few moments each day just to relax. If you have time put on your stretchy pants and call it a day. Relaxing will help you live longer, look at how old Freedom is.
Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR!
