Hey whatcha got?

The DOR says my nose wants to be a star. Not really, my nose just wants to know whatcha got? The powdery stuff on my nose is from the lick-it that the DOR had just reloaded for us.
I find if my nose keeps sniffing and prodding at humans pretty soon they give me a treat. It took a long time to teach the DOR that the nose means "cough up a treat and I won't wipe an appy bugger on you." She responds well, now I have to train the rest of the humans that command. The DOR did say something about the fact that 7 out of 10 pictures that she takes of me seem to be just my nose, 2 out of 10 are of my butt, and the remaining photo is usually a blur of some sort. I think she needs to work on her photography skills and quit griping about my modeling skills. After all I am the world's most beautiful Appaloosa, what more could she want?

Sharing

The DOR hung up a treat apple for us. She put a green apple lick-it in there for us. Shandi and I both LOVE it!!!
While I would like to eat all of it I am sharing with my Shandi Doll. Sometimes we will lick on it together. It is a nice toy and keeps us both busy.
The DOR also hid carrots around the pasture for us to find. We get to go on a treasure hunt to find them. Well off to see who finds the most.
Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR!

Quote for the week

When your horse follows you without being asked, when he rubs his head on yours, and when you look at him and feel a tingle down your spine you, know you are loved.

Yep Mushboy is loved, so is the DOR and SCC. We follow them everywhere, give them smooches, nuzzles, and rubs. All of our humans love us to bits and we love them back. Nice thing for the humans because sometimes we are the only bright spot in their day.
Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR!

Freedom speaks Saturday

This is Mushboy and I at spring follies last year. I have to tell you in every horse's life, if they are lucky, a special human comes along. For me it was Mushboy, you see he saved me. Mushboy visited a feedlot and saw me standing between two large bucking horses, they were helping hold me up. I was there waiting to be shipped to slaughter. I was thin and getting worse by the day because I couldn't eat hay. Mushboy was there looking for a friend for Salty the Wonder Horse and when he saw me he knew I was the one...no questions asked. I arrived to the ranch and was soon being fed three meals of special mush a day. I am a fat and happy guy all because a special young man entered my life. Even now, when I can't be ridden, Mushboy takes very special care of me. I get mush, brushed, played with, and my paddock is decorated just so. Mushboy even reads to me, I especially enjoy that.
I hope that every horse gets that one special human at least once in their life...what I really wish is that horses have a special human their entire lives.
Here is a big thank you and all the love I have to give to one special boy. Without you Mushboy I would have died at the lot or even more horribly at the slaughter plant...you are my special boy forever and always.
Life is so good! Oh and Jack told me to remember to say: Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR!

Dear John

The DOR has decided that there is so much poop floating around it was time for the Dear John wagon. As in Dear John take you poop and leave, Dear John you are so full of poop that you need a wagon to haul it in, Dear John I have too much poop at my house so time to clean the closest.
She also tried the Dear Jack please poop in the Dear John wagon line...but then how would she unwind at the end of the day by scooping the poop?
What would you put in a Dear John wagon?
Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR!

Lift off

I don't know if you can see it clearly, but there is space between my tail and haunches. Yep, my tail has lifted off! Now that may not seem like a big deal, horses do that all the time. Well I haven't been doing that since last September. Since my accident I stand with my tail resting on my butt. At first it was clamped down so tight the DOR couldn't lift it. I get a therapeutic massage everyday to help reconnect my brain to my butt, will that make me a butt head? The purpose is to help reactivate the nerves so the messages go to and from my brain to my hind end. The tail lift off shows that the massages are helping.
Have a great day and don't forget to hug your DOR!

Quote for the week

In every life a little rain must fall

As much as we would all appreciate a nice smooth calm life, sunny skies, and rainbows that just isn't the way things are-nor should it be that way. Without storms there would be no rainbows. Without clouds we wouldn't appreciate sunny skies. Without adversity we would not appreciate calm days. Horses have the gift to appreciate things just because they are...We don't stand in the rain and think "boy I wish it was sunny". We don't get all riled up and think back to a calm day where everything was perfect. Nope we just take things as they come and appreciate the gifts each day brings.
I think humans would be happier if they could appreciate everything as a gift, learn to appreciate the moment, and quit living in the past or future...live in the moment for it is the only time that moment will happen.
Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR!

Freedom speaks Saturday

Here I am stealing a kiss from the little wild horse I am helping take care of. I am in love with her!
I don't know if you have ever noticed, but sometimes us horses have a hard time communicating with our humans. Seems there is a language barrier. Humans use words and we use a more picture based language that we combine with body language. It can be frustrating to say the least. So yesterday we had the human communicator come out to the ranch so we could tell the DOR a few things. Now this is a special human that has the ability to speak with us and make DOR's understand what we have to say. I always like it when she is here because I have plenty to say. I have to make sure things are running the way they should, I need to tie up some loose ends, and I need to convince the DOR to let me keep the little wild horse.
I am wondering what the other horses out there do if they do not have the special communicator. I think it would be so frustrating not to be able to give the DOR and earful once in a while, plus it is good for her. See people don't have horse problems, horses have people problems according to Buck Brannaman and I fully agree with him. Well sometimes I have horse problems, but that is only when the young punks get a bit silly.

Reprieve

Some horse still has his butt camped out in the spot that I was supposed to be in at the rehab facility so my trip is temporarily postponed. I am pretty happy about this actually, I hate being away from home and my Shandi Doll. The DOR has mixed feelings about this, but is happy to have me around everyday. The new plan is for me to be going up in a couple more weeks. More time for me to eat grass and teach Shandi what to do while I am not here. The DOR also says it is time for me to rebuild my backing skills so I won't have a hard time getting out of the trailer.
Oh yah, more lazy pasture party time for this spotted boy.

Rumor has it I have to take a bath before I go to rehab. No stinky horses allowed. Alrighty then, I am hunting for a skunk then I won't have to go :)

What I hope for

What do I want at the end of my rehab? I am hoping that the DOR and I will be able to be riding once more. We both miss getting to ride in the arena, at clinics, and heading down the trails. Wish me luck.

Packed

The DOR spent part of yesterday afternoon putting together my supplies for my stay at the rehab facility. She made all of my treat tubs with my supplements up and put them in plastic containers. She wants to make sure I am given just the right things.
She has a light blanket for me to take, just in case the weather in Ellensburg gets weird. I hear they had a blizzard last week, maybe I need my winter blanket? She showed me a blanket that looks strangely like a blue tarp...I let her know that better hadn't be the one she plans on sending-if she does I am not coming home! She assures me that Freedom said I can use his tan one, alrighty then. She is trying to decide if I should take my favorite tub to eat treats out of...I am not picky I will eat treats out of any tub they come in. She wonders if se should send my favorite brush, my chew toy, lavender oil so it will smell like she is around, and if I need my special Boogie halter. I keep telling her I will be fine as long as she comes and visits. I have tried to convince her that I need to take my Shandi Doll or I will be...I mean she will be lonely. I guess Shandi can't come and that is not what I wanted to hear. We have only been apart once and that was when I first got hurt and I had a hard time resting without her. I guess we are like a married couple, I hate being without her.
The DOR assures me the time will fly and I will get more attention than I know what to do with. I just hope she doesn't make me carry all of my stuff myself because I would look pretty silly going down the road to Ellensburg all stacked up with my necessities.
Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR!

Quote for the week

It was a flabberbooster
~Mushboy

Mushboy made up the word flabberbooster. He uses it to describe things that are at an extreme somehow.

Flabberbooster seems to be a fitting description of the kind of wind that we have had this week. Flabberbooster would have been a good description of when I dismounted the DOR a couple of years ago. Flabberbooster could also be a good additive to a saying like "I hope your week is flabberboostering happy"

How could you use the word flabberbooster?

Enjoy your week and don't forget to hug your DOR!

Freedom speaks Saturday

Frost mornings are one of the delights of life. The temperatures are dropping below freezing at night. The orchardists are running their fans and sprinklers at night to protect the fruit blossoms and buds. Makes for some pretty icy frost in the morning.
Just another sign that spring is here and soon I will be enjoying long summer days. I like the heat, by old bones feel so good then.

I got new treats

I have new supplements in my treats. They are designed to help support my continued recovery. Unlike Sir Darby, I am not picky about what is in my treats. I will eat my supplements straight from the DOR's hand. Yep vitamin E I munch it, apple cider vinegar I drink it, and SOD I inhale it...I eat just about anything.
The DOR told me that I will be going to the rehab facility next week. I will be there for two weeks...I hate leaving home. The last time I left I got very angry with the DOR, I didn't like her sending me away. She promises lots of visits this time. She also made it clear I have to do this to keep getting better. I will be at Willow Creek Rehabilitation Center...you can send treats if you want LOL

Killer tumbleweeds

After being attacked by a giant herd of tumbleweeds last year on a trail ride, I have learned not to trust the marauding plants. Shandi has not learned how fickle these plants can be yet. One entered our paddock and she went over to talk to it. The next things I know it attacked her face! Oh my! What was I to do? I couldn't let it eat her face...so I found my big brave spots and rescued her.

So I stepped in and help free her from the horse eating weed. It was tricky, the weed threatened to eat me. I had to extract her from its grasp carefully so as not to cause her any harm.

Then I showed Shandi how to dispose of a tumbleweed by eating it. Granted this one was old and slow moving, but it was still dangerous.
The DOR was very proud of me, she was pleased to see me step up and be a good uncle by taking care of my Shandi Doll. I know the SCC is glad too, he wouldn't have liked it if the tumbleweed ate of Shandi's face.
I just want to warn you to be careful out there, the older tumbleweeds are looking to prey on the weak and helpless.

I am loosing my hair!

I wonder if I am shedding more than usual? It seems that every time someone touches me a bunch of it falls out. I don't think that I was extra woolie this winter. Is it possible, that like the SCC, I am going bald? Do horses go bald? Do they make horse toupees and if they do are they as bad as some of the human ones the DOR has seen? Maybe everything is fine, I noticed that Salty is snowing all over his pasture. Just in case I am wrong, I have asked that no one touch me for a few days. I want to see if that will stem the tide of falling out hair. Now if the wind would die down too, seems it is blowing my hair clean off of me!

Freedom speaks Saturday

It is spring, a time when love takes over not just a young man's fancy, but us old farts too.
Jack has his Shandi Doll, Sir Darby flirts with all the girls around him, Salty and I we have Freedom's Lady. I should point out that her name is Freedom's Lady so I am not sure how much of a claim Salty can make on her. I spend time in the paddock with her, Salty doesn't, it is nice to nuzzle her cute little face. Every morning and afternoon Salty and I spend a couple of hours chatting with her. I am pretty sure she likes me best, but don't tell Salty his feelings will be hurt because he thinks he is quite the lady's man.
I hope you are all enjoying your spring, happy Easter to all of you.
Life is so good! Oh and Jack told me to remember to say: Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR!

Workout

This is my Shandi Doll, yep she is mine. The SCC thinks that she is his little filly, but he is wrong. I have been teaching her the rules for training your human. Yesterday's lesson was on the importance of keeping your human fit. Shandi learned her lesson well. When the SCC came out to catch her to groom her Shandi took off running. She even surpassed my expectations with a little improvisation, letting out a squeal. She had the SCC chasing her around for a bit, she ended up huffing and puffing (maybe she needs a workout too). The SCC told the DOR that Shani didn't want caught so he made her keep moving until she walked over to get the halter on. Alrighty then seems the SCC didn't really understand what was happening, but we will let him hang on to his version of the matter.
It was another great day at the farmnasum.
