The storm this way arriveth. Complete with rolling thunder (I love that) and some lightening. The house is wide-open and the smell of the rain is heavenly!

Show horse?

Remember when the Freedom was teasing me about jumping off of a bridge if all of my friends did? My response was that wouldn't happen because Ginger would become a fancy show horse before I would set foot on a bridge. Well, I may have to eat my words.
The first picture is Ginger at the Spring Follies this year. Yep she is shaggy and looks a bit like the Snuffleuffagus from Sesame Street. Ginger has cushings and grows a winter coat that is 4 inches long, she is a yak. There is one person who has said that Ginger is the ugliest horse they have ever seen, well it is a good thing that Mushboy didn't hear that he thinks she is beautiful!

Ginger has added a new supplement to her diet. It is designed to support a more normal metabolism in horse with cushings. As you can see from these pictures she is doing well.

There has been some clipping on her belly and the topline, but she is shedding out nicely. She is usually never this shed out until August, just in time to start getting ready for growing her winter woolies.

Look at this really fancy hip, the hair is normal for the most part.

She has a thick mane and tail and the cutest face. Yep I am going to be called out on my earlier statement. Ginger is turning into a fancy horse so the DOR is going to make me back up my words. She is looking for a nice easy bridge for me to walk across. I have done a bridge that was on the ground, well I guess that really isn't a bridge is it. I am going to have to cross one that goes over water. Ginger reminded the DOR that there is one out where they have been trail riding...thanks miss fancy pants.

Well I am going to practice doing what the DOR does when she needs to relax, I am going to hum. Can a horse hum? I guess I will find out.

Less words Wednesday

The Trailboss, Paul Rogers, is giving two clinics this weekend:
June 6th: Appleatchee Clinic, Wenatchee WA
June 7th: Tulip Srpings Demonstration, Kennewick WA

The DOR is going to the one in Kennewick.
She is busy on Saturday or she would head to the one in Wenatchee also, throwing in a visit with her family while she was at it.

You can learn more about Paul at his website Remuda International or his blog The Farrier Horseman
Contact Paul at
remuda-int@hotmail.com or call (509) 899-2928 to sign up for one of his clinics.

Just so you don't forget how great looking I am, here I am being ridden by the Trailboss (Paul) leading back Smoke who decided to make an escape attempt by heading for the hills. Look how fancy I look, I am busy about my business. By the way Smoke is a Percheron/Quarter Horse cross...gives you an idea how stout I'm built.

Peaceful spot

So where does the DOR hang out when she is not at work or spending time with me? I know, I know...she hangs out in her peaceful spot.
The house she lives in was built by her grandfather, father, and two uncles. It has been a special place to her since she was a little girl. She loves to sit on the front patio, surrounded by flowers, rocking in the swing, and read. The patio is partially shaded by the oak tree and when the wind blows the tree sounds a bit like the ocean. When the weather is not too hot during the summer months you can find her there or on the back deck reading nook...unless she is out at the ranch.
I have a peaceful spot too. It is hanging out under the trees with the rest of my pasture mates. I think it is important that every creature has a peaceful spot that they can go to and relax.

Fundraiser

Good morning everyone. I hope you had a lovely weekend.
The farrier who does our feet made one of these hoofpicks and the DOR fell in love with them. They are made from a special kind of horse shoe and fit really nicely in your hand.

What the pictures don't show is the variation of colors that is on each hoofpick, the coloring is similar to titanium that has been turned into jewlery. The DOR talked the farrier into making a batch of them for a fundraiser.

The proceeds from the fundraiser will go to help support a horse that has been rescued and is in rehabilitation at Sunny Acres Ranch. The price of the hoofpicks are $9.00. That price covers the cost of the hoofpick from the farrier, shipping and the the remainder goes to support horses in rehabilitation. Contact me in the comment section if you would like to order one.
The DOR is looking forward to a more peaceful week this week. Graduation for her high school is over, which is a big relief to her. It is the last week of regular school and then she runs night school for three weeks. After that it is horsey time for the rest of the summer!
Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR
