A horse is the projection of peoples' dreams about themselves - strong, powerful, beautiful - and it has the capability of giving us escape from our mundane existence. ~Pam BrownThe horse in the picture is Panikanic. She is a horse the DOR rescued and spent two years rehabbing. Panik now lives with a 20 something young man. She works cattle, competes roping, and picks up bull riders at rodeos. Panik was a mess, a horse that many people thought would never amount to anything...in fact the DOR had been told she might need to be put down. The DOR had a vision of the horse that Panik could be, a dream that she wouldn't give up on. Panik became the projection of the DOR's dreams and now has a wonderful life.
I get to help the DOR be the projection of her dreams. When the DOR was younger she would ride anything. She used to ride every chance she got, without fear. She is now older, her body doesn't want to cooperate with her mind. What she has found is that when she is riding me she can return to those younger days. For a brief time she is in her teens, riding down the trails in search of adventure...she is flying. She is all those things because on my back, using me as an extension of herself, she can return to those younger years. I get to help her be young everytime we are together. What a wonderous thing it is for me to help my DOR experience this magical existence everytime we are together. Of course I also have to remember to bring her back to reality so I wipe my nose on her shirt, blow goobers in her hair, or bump her so she steps in poop. Gotta keep her grounded or she will drift off.
Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR

Your DOR sounds like a wonderful person. Reading this post made me cry sometimes when I think back I get a little weepy.I think it is about what if's.
Jack - You're a gentleman, and it's lucky for your DOR that she has such a steady boy to ride. But you love her too, go on, admit it!
This is so true. When I am with my horses, whether riding or just hanging out, I'm living my dreams.
Syndi I have been in contact with Vada, no room at the Inn but she is trying to help.
Amanda,
I have been looking here to. All the rescues are filled to the rafters. I don't have room, wish I did...I am turning down 2-5 horses a week right now. The economy is not doing horses any favors right now and there are just too many of them!
Your DOR is a wonderful lady Jack. Tell her that her hair cut is very cute. I see a comment from Amanda about the horses. I guess there are going to a many suffering horses. Damn it..
It's great the Panikanic found a good person and is now living a good life. I'm sure he thanks the DOR for that.
As for Jack and his lady friend, well Jack you are doing your good deed being nice to the DOR. If you occasionally blow a booger, that's just the price she'll have to pay for your good nature.
What a beautiful little horse, I'm glad she got a second chance!
This was a really nice post, made me think back on how things have changed for me too, in terms of courage and comfort level with horses over the years!
You are so right-the magic in all horses and animals is amazing.
I remember Panikanic from a couple of years ago. You did a wonderful job with her! I'm glad she has a new home.
Jack, it's so nice that your DOR has someone like you to help her feel young again.
Nice post.
Glenda
