A pony is a childhood dream, a horse is an adulthood treasure. ~ Rebecca Carrol
Almost every child dreams of being a cowboy, a jockey, a bronc rider, or being an Indian riding a horse. It seems the one thing that all humans have in common. A few of those children fortunate enough to experience a childhood that includes the companionship of a real horse. Some of those children grow up still surrounded by the horses they love. Then there are the adults who have horses who were the children who just dreamed of having a horse. I am not sure who treasures their horses more, my guess would be both kinds of adults do. I do know that adults sure treasure their horses because we have a way of making adults feel like children again.
Enjoy your day and don't forget to hug your DOR

I can't speak for all, but I treasure my horses because I had to wait so long for that dream to come true. Even the most mundane of moments with them is precious to me. I am grateful for the privilege of owning them. They help me to be a better person.

Very true Cactus Jack Splash. You understand us human horse lovers well.

As a child I also dreamed of being a horse - a stallion (ok, I didn't quite understand gender when I was in elementary school). But I had a herd of "horses" and we galloped around the play ground together during recess.

As an adult, I love my horses now as much as when I was a kid, but I treasure them more now because I'm wiser, I know what a blessing they are, and I've had to work harder to be able to share my life with them.

Well, I rode as a child and then left for years but owning a horse, living my dream in my 50s is just so remarkable words don't even describe it. What a thrill to walk out to your very own stable in the morning with your very own horses and to share that special relationship with them. Okay, I can't ride as well as when I was a fearless child but the beauty of having these horses in my life is just indescribable.
Kind of how your DOR loves you Jack I always imagine.

Jack I have never told you this before but when I was a little girl I did have a horse.

My daddy took me one time to an auction and told me I could pick any horse I wanted and he would try to get it for me.

I was always getting things when he felt guilty...but, that's another story.

Well Jack, I could have had a great big pretty horse like if I had wanted but I picked out this little Shetland pony.

Now I loved him at first but then he got very mean and started trying to kick us whenever we would get near.

So I guess that's why now I am a little afraid of horses. I was really little and this little pony really scared me.

So you're my favorite horse now!!

Happy Sunday Jack!!:-)

Cactus Jack Splash, you've got it all figured out.

Royal has a way of making me happy when I'm sad or mad.

Not sure how you horses know how to do that, but I'm sure you could explain it.

In the meantime, I'd just like to thank you for having that gift of making us humans feel better about the world.

Shinade,
The DOR says that most Shetlands are horrible. She calls the Shitlands. While there are some nice ones out there, they are hard to find.
Sorry about your terrible experience.

Mom says that is so very true - she used to dream of having a horse when she was little! Now she can look at you, though. :)

I had a whole stable full of horses. My favorite was the pure white Arab, Lightning. Thunder was a pure black Arab mare. Then there was the dapple gray Starlight, and I guess I actually don't remember the others. huh?... Of course they were only pretend. Parents said I'd never take good care of a real horse.

I got to ride some and even take lessons one summer, but now I haven't ridden for decades.
